FREE Moola Invites - Get Paid to Game.

Many of the free wargames available on this site were written for DOS. DOS was the Operating System by Microsoft which served as a predecessor to Microsoft Windows. Earlier versions of Windows were still based around DOS but with each new version of Windows compatibility with DOS and integration of DOS into the Operating System became less and less. In Windows XP DOS was almost entirely removed from the Operating System.
This has caused many problems for those desiring to run these older wargames. I have received several requests at various times for help in operating some of these older DOS games. I have found what I believe to be a good solution. It is a free and open source project called DOSBox and I have successfully used it to run High Command while others have used it successfully to run at least one of W.R. Hutsell's Wargames. You can download DOSBox from http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/.
DOSBox may cause you some initial confusion as it requires a knowledge of some DOS commands, however it includes integrated help which should allow you to get a game up and running withing five minutes. After initially learning how to use the system you should be able to get successive games up in 1-2 mins.
Interestingly enough, DOSBox also offers support for other Operating Systems, allowing one to run DOS games on a variety of platforms including Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X, OS/2, and BeOS amongst others.
